Frequently Asked Questions
For your convenience, we’ve compiled a list of the questions we hear most frequently. If you still have questions, give us a call—we’re happy to help!
How do I enroll my child at South Decatur?
We are thrilled to welcome new members to our school family! Please visit our Registration page for information about enrolling your child at SDHS. You may download and print a copy of the registration forms and bring the completed forms, together with the required documentation, to our main office. (If you are not new to the district, you may be able to complete the majority of your registration paperwork online. Again, that information is available on our Registration page.)
Back to TopWhat if my child requires medication during the school day?
We administer medication in accordance with state regulations and with physician and parental approval. Please complete our medication authorization form, and bring medications in the original, labeled packaging to the front office.
Back to TopWhat is Harmony, and how do I get a username and password to use it?
Harmony is just another way we keep communication between home and school strong. It provides you with almost real time access to your child’s grades, attendance history, and other important information. To access Harmony, you must first create an account and activate it with your parent/guardian web code. If you have not received a web code, please call the front office.
Back to TopWhat do I need to do if my child will be absent from school?
If your child must miss school, please call the front office on the day of his/her absence. For information about attendance requirements and what qualifies as an excused absence, please refer to our board policy.
Back to TopWhat if my child needs to leave school early?
A parent or guardian must sign out and pick up students at the front office. Students with a valid driving license who can drive themselves may leave campus with prior written permission from a parent/guardian and approval from the principal.
Back to TopDo you enforce a dress code at South Decatur?
We expect our students to dress in an appropriate manner at all times. Student dress may not present a health or a safety hazard, damage school property, violate municipal, county, or state law, or present a potential disruption of the educational process.
Back to TopMay my high schooler drive to and from school?
Yes, and student parking is available with a parking permit. However, students may not drive any time during school hours, including class breaks and lunch periods. Also, students may not sit in their vehicles during their lunch period.
